UBX Training targets multiple locations in Glasgow

AUSTRALIAN boxing fitness concept UBX Training is considering multiple locations in Glasgow as it prepares to launch in the UK and Ireland.

The firm has partnered with Empowered Brands, in a deal worth £50million, and said it is targeting six locations in the city.

The training sites will be among 250 to be rolled out across the UK and Ireland and will create around 750 new jobs.

UBX Training was founded by world boxing champion Danny Green and fitness and tech entrepreneur Tim West and opened in Australia in 2016.

There are now 92 clubs open in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.

John Jempson, CFO of Empowered Brands, said, “As part of our investment, we are setting aside money to directly fund the start-up costs of prospective franchisees.

“While the fitness sector has remained resilient and rebounded well from the shutdowns, access to traditional forms of lending remains impacted, and we will seek to fill this gap.

“This investment reflects our strong confidence in the UBX concept.

“We anticipate strong interest in our franchise offering from three key groups: personal trainers looking to make the leap into bricks and mortar, existing fitness businesses looking to diversify their portfolios, and “corporate refugees” – people who might leave the workforce and rethink their career path.

“UBX units are small and, with our support, represent a low cost of entry into the fitness market.

“We are confident that the concept will grow rapidly here, building on the success of our existing brands.”

Tim West of UBX Training said: “We are well positioned to capitalize on the broader interest in health and fitness post-pandemic.

“Covid-19 has shed light on the importance of regular exercise – for physical and mental well-being – expanding our target market.

“Empowered Brands understands our vision and we believe their industry experience and deep understanding of the UK and Irish markets make them the ideal partner for us.”
