A suspected drug trafficker was arrested on Sunday with charas and Rs 14.35 lakh in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. Bashir Ahmed from Chak Bhagta village in Katra was driving a two-wheeler when he was arrested for check by a police team in Sool-Kakriyal. Ten rolls of charas and Rs 2 lakh were recovered from him, said Shailender Singh, Chief Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi.
He said that a case under NDPS law was filed against Bashir, who, during preliminary questioning, revealed that he collected Rs 12.35 lakh more after selling drugs to young people and kept the money at home.
A raid was carried out and the money along with 16 rolls of charas were seized from his house, the chief superintendent of police said, calling his arrest and recovery a “great success” in combating the threat of the drugs in the district.
Under the leadership, the SSP said it has registered 205 NDPS cases against 249 offenders since March 2021.
“To tackle drug addiction we need a multi-pronged strategy and Reasi’s police are working on it,” he said, adding that their doors were always open to drug addicts who were willing to avoid the route. drug addiction. They would be sent to detoxification centers as a priority for their rehabilitation, he said.
Another peddler was arrested on Sunday and more than 14g of heroin was recovered in his possession at the main bus stop here.
Reasi’s Jaleel Ahmad was found moving suspiciously and was therefore searched and questioned, which led to the recovery of the narcotic substance, a police official said. – PTI
