Parents, students and community showing kindness to KCS teachers

In the face of the mask debate and a host of other challenges related to the virus, teachers continue to come forward day in and day out. Now the appreciation is shown.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In the face of the KCS mask debate and a host of other challenges related to the virus, teachers continue to come forward every day.

Today, parents and students appreciate this dedication.

At Ball Camp Elementary School, a group of parents and students wrote kind messages in chalk on Monday night.

KCS parent Kim Batdorf said she and her daughter had gone out to help write a variety of kind messages.

“I mean these people love our kids for almost 200 days a year and so being able to take 30 minutes of my night to love them just wasn’t an issue,” Batdorf said.

She said it might just be a small gesture, but it meant a lot to teachers on Tuesday morning.

“As soon as they got there and saw the front doors and all the love messages, their mood instantly changed and they were so happy to be there and take the opportunity to be one. example for our children, ”said Batdorf.

Batdorf said many parents have also donated to help teachers.

At Sequoyah Elementary School, teachers also felt love.

“We were able to send out cookies this morning and coffee for the teachers as a little surprise,” said PTO President Jennifer McNally.

McNally is part of the effort to show his appreciation to the teachers at KCS. She said she sent an email to Sequoyah Elementary School’s parent directory reminding them to send a sweet note to teachers.

“As a former educator, a kind word or a note of encouragement can go a long way,” McNally said. “Just knowing that you are considered and appreciated makes a big difference for teachers.”

At Karns High School, teachers and staff were enjoyed with Chick-Fil-A cookies on Tuesday morning.

Across the Knox County School District, parents and students continue to thank and appreciate teachers and administrators.
