Oklahoma freshman teacher helps her students become published authors – FOX23 News

TULSA, Oklahoma. – A teacher from Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy recently posted authors for her entire freshman class.

In the past school year, Kelly Pruett realized that her students across the state were struggling to cope with the coronavirus. She wanted to cheer them up and offer them an activity to show how they can impact their communities with kindness. Every student in Ms. Pruett’s class had the chance to contribute to the book “Color the World with Kindness”. The students were able to write and edit their pages, as well as illustrate the book.

Charlotte Hailey was in Ms. Pruett’s freshman class last year. She wrote: “Kindness is important because it makes us happy. Kindness can turn a frown into a smile. It can go a long way … over a mile. Kindness is like making new friends, and friendship is like a circle that never ends.

Charlotte and her mother, Ashley Hailey, also created the book cover illustration.

“It was not just an opportunity to show ourselves, but just to spend time with each other, to be kind and to show the world how we feel about kindness,” said Ashley. .

Kelly Pruett found out about Student Treasures Publishing which published her student’s book for free and parents were able to order hardback copies.

“I think children who become adults will remember this experience and pass on that kindness that will continue when they become adults with their own children,” said Pruett.
