Her memorable lips and larger than life personality have been known for years, but today longtime actress and reality TV star Lisa rinna continues to improve her status as a distinguished businesswoman with the recent publication of her rinna beauty Mark.
“It has always been a dream of mine and a passion,” Lisa at Forbes tells me. “I had my lips redone when I was 24 years old. I still call myself “the lip pioneer” which is so silly and fun and silly and funny. Why can’t I make money with this? Why can’t I create a brand? Lisa goes on to discuss the long journey it took to get to this in her last business endeavors, saying she continued to meet people to do business with, but for several years the deals just didn’t work. .
When another promising deal fell apart, it allowed Lisa the chance opening for rinna beauty become the brand it is today. Lisa acknowledges that the first few months of the Covid-19 pandemic have given her a really good design for her business. “It takes a long time to build a brand and obviously we were doing it right before Covid hit,” Lisa continues. “We just kept doing it. We just kept going. I know what I like about a gloss, lipstick, and pencil. I am very specific. So I think being in Covid, going through it all, making sure I have exactly what I wanted in my brand because again, I’ve worked with so many makeup artists and people over the years. I know what I like and I know what works.
With Lisa’s lips arguably her most recognizable attribute throughout her years on camera, she recalls what initially motivated her to receive an additional facelift to her facial features. “My lips have had their own career. Who knows why I wanted to have big lips? I know why! Because i saw the movie Beaches with my girlfriend and we saw Barbara Hershey and she had these gorgeous lips. I’ve always been obsessed with lips, I don’t know why. Because my lips have had a career of their own, this seems like the normal path for creating a lipstick line. It seems obvious to me. We’re coming out with a whole line of lip plumpers and enhancers, of course, because that’s how it all started.
Remaining consistently in the public eye over the past decades, Lisa has noticed that her approach and mindset to business relationships continues to evolve. Speaking about her decisions today, Lisa says, “It changes over time, and I hope I change over time. I think it’s really important to listen and watch. I take a lot, visually, in my life. I watch my daughters, I watch all kinds of art, music, movies, TV and everything that has marked my career for 30 years. You just have to stay open I think and continue to be your genuine self and as you get older and bigger you just have to stay true to that.
Speaking of business, one of the longest projects of her career so far has been her many years as “Billie Reed” on the NBC daytime drama. Days of our lives. Lisa first joined the series in 1992 and with a large period of on and off years until 2018, she has remained a prominent presence on the popular soap opera. When asked if she would ever return to the fictional town of Salem, Lisa replied, “You know, who knows ?! I never never say anything. I love this character. I love ‘Billie Reed.’ If it showed up and felt right then, why not ?! “
Lisa has further expanded her fan base since joining The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills during its fifth season in 2014. With season 11 currently airing new episodes, Lisa was able to discuss her brand Rinna Beauty in the hit series in a way all her own. “I’m just doing it. There is no special formula other than telling the truth, being genuine, and just sharing it. Fortunately, I was able to do it with this platform. They allowed me to do it this season. And it’s also about having fun. I think it gets lost in translation when people have a business conversation or are discussing how we do it. How about just having fun? How about expressing it organically and authentically and the rest will do the job that needs to be done? “
Now 57, Lisa doesn’t look like she’s planning to slow down anytime soon. “I love this stage of my life and I never thought I would. Don’t you think you’re gonna love this scene because like when we were kids, someone who was 57 was old, they were old, honey. I try to kiss everyday, I try to live in the moment, I try to have fun. I have really learned in my life at this point and at this age life is short. You only have a short time on this planet, so why not have some fun? Why not feel good about yourself? Why not do things to support this no matter how old you are? “
When Lisa started her career, social media was non-existent. So now, with the importance and often in demand of social media today, Lisa has chosen to firmly take her own voice when sharing and interacting on these platforms. “Social media is a double-edged sword,” Lisa shares. “There are a lot of positives and negatives and I think we’ve all experienced both sides. For me, I find it to be a really wonderful way for me to express myself. No one does it for me. I do my own social networks. I express myself as I want and I love this freedom. Yes, it’s always changing and evolving, but so am I. So I see the importance of it, see the value of it, but I also see that it can be a very dangerous playing field, so to speak. I see it all, I am aware of it all. Then in the end I think of a quote that my husband [Harry Hamlin] always says to me: ‘It is none of your business what other people think of you.’ It’s damn smart.
Even with Lisa’s time and effort in promoting her Rinna Beauty brand right now, her eyes (and lips) are determined to take over another industry. “Yes, there is one that I am going to exploit that itches and that is alcohol!” I’m going to put out a wine and I’m really excited about it because I think it’s a really fascinating world and it’s a suitable brand for me. (Laughs). We hope, if all goes well, to launch next May. We’re dating Rinna Rosé first, for info!
