Kominfo ministry shuts down 5,429 online lending sites misusing personal data

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCommunication and Information (Kominfo) The ministry had closed access to 5,429 publicly reported online lending sites from 2018 to December 26, 2021. One of the reasons for blocking access was due to misuse of personal data.

“The Department of Kominfo continues to oversee cellular operators to maintain that personal data is handled in accordance with laws and regulations,” Kominfo Minister Johnny Gerald Plate said in a written statement quoted by Tempo on Thursday, December 30.

The blocking was carried out on various platforms, such as websites, social media, up to file sharing platforms. Johnny acknowledged that issues of misuse of private data in the financial services industry are always difficult.

The ministry, he added, would therefore continue to strengthen data management oversight to prevent widespread data misuse.

Johnny also asked the public to file a complaint if they come across indications of data misuse via the ministry’s email [email protected] People can also report to aduankonten.id and [email protected] if they find content that violates the regulations.

For complaints about telecommunications services, the report could be issued directly via the Kominfo Ministry’s Twitter account @aduanPPI. “This concerns reports related to disturbing calls or messages, including advertisements for unwanted offers and fraudulent messages,” concluded Johnny.
