As the price of petroleum products soars to all-time highs, netizens are reacting with memes that are both humorous and insightful.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Thursday announced a massive rise in the price of petroleum products after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) emphasized the removal of subsidies on raw materials.

In a press conference, the finance minister said that the government has decided to increase the price of petrol, diesel, kerosene and light diesel by Rs 30, effective May 27.

Here’s how social media reacted to the news:

“Please allow horse cart and rikshaw service in #Islamabad, due to lack of public transport in the city, people cannot afford the high price of petrol. Thank you. #PetrolDieselPrice” , wrote a user on Twitter.

“The good old days are back in Pakistan,” said one Twitter user, sharing a cartoon showing donkeys pushing and dragging a car.

Some even posted memes that skewered the feds.

Some were even more inventive with the post and suggested other uses for a car on the internet.

The finance minister noted that some of the burden should be shifted to the masses, but despite the massive increase in the price of petroleum products, the government was still suffering losses but pledged to reach a personnel deal soon. with the Fund.

Pakistan and the IMF could not reach a staff level agreement a day earlier after the global lender said there were deviations from policies agreed between the two sides.
