The “Light the World Giving Machine” campaign will expand to Glendale this year and continue to Gilbert, where charity giving machines have been popular over the holiday season since they first appeared in 2018.

The machines, sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be available Nov. 18 through Jan. 1. 2 at Water Tower Plaza, 45 W. Page Ave., Gilbert, and Nov. 22-Jan. 22 7 at Murphy Park, 5809 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale.

The machines offer the community the opportunity to donate to local and global charities. The price of Giving Machine items ranges from $3 to $300 and includes basics such as clothing, personal hygiene, meals, school supplies, medicine, and even livestock. The LDS Church covers all running costs so that 100% of donations go directly to the charity of your choice.

This year, the Giving Machines of the Valley will feature items from several local and global nonprofits.

For East Valley Gilbert location:

  • AZCEND
  • Midwest Food Bank
  • Gather humanity
  • Arizona Special Olympics
  • House of Refuge
  • African Girls Hope Foundation

For West Valley Glendale location:

  • Saint Vincent de Paul
  • OCJ Children
  • Lutheran Social Services
  • Desert Mission Food Bank
  • Chicanos to the cause
  • water for people

Special Olympics of Arizona is featured in the Giving Machines for the first time this year.

“The donations from Light the World Giving Machine will ensure that people with developmental disabilities across the state can continue to receive free services, high-quality athletic equipment, and overall an athletic experience comparable to that of high-level sports organizations,” Jamie Heckerman, president and CEO of Special Olympics Arizona, said in a press release.

The LDS Church first unveiled the machines in 2017, and the number of locations has grown to 24 cities worldwide for this Christmas season.

Those who cannot visit a machine in person can still participate by donating online at LightTheWorld.org/donate.
