In a massive development in the ongoing TRP scam case, a 500-page document of conversations between Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami and former Director General of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) Partho Das Gupta was reportedly leaked on social networks.
The alleged conversations reveal damning information related to Goswami’s closeness to the prime minister’s office and members of the ruling government, his efforts to manipulate the TRP in his favor and seek help from the BJP government, and much more.
Some discussions would have shown that Goswami ensured the PMO’s assistance in his relations with the TRPs.
In one of the chat messages circulating online, the former BARC CEO allegedly sent a confidential letter from BARC to Goswami saying he had scrambled the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) while Goswami reportedly replied that he could meet the Prime Minister on this.
Some posts also suggest that Das Gupta told Goswami that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) reform proposal to digitally measure TV audiences using special software installed in the set-top box would be politically damaging to the TV audience. the chain of the Republic and the BJP.
In alleged talks, former BARC CEO asks Goswami to use his influence with ruling party leaders to sabotage TRAI reform to install automatic digital measurement software and replace manual system household meter installation.
Goswami’s alleged WhatsApp chat with Das Gupta was leaked on social media the same day the Bombay High Court adjourned the hearing in the TRP Scam case until January 29. Mumbai police have also said they will not arrest Goswami until the next hearing.
